"Lean to Accept all kinds of people as being different not only makes us special but also unique"
According to this tragic book read by me but still not understood, Jem and Scout still does not understand the way fellow pupils in this small town behaves towards african Americans. I finally came to realise that this book was all about racism as African Americans were badly treated by fellow white pupils. As you all know it is a sin to kill a mocking bird because of the fact that all they do is sing and particularly harmless to people so therefore the book actually meant it was a sin and an immoral thing to treat African Americans the way they were treated which is the reason why I merely enjoyed this book and Atticus' unstoppable kindness was also incredibly amazing as this was the main reason I got interested in this book. To conclude I would just like to say that the statement I quoted above should be taken to further consideration.
Thank you.

"The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience"
As I grow up my opinions change because of my life experiences .I can't help but wonder if there is someone else who sees things the I do. All the struggles I face seem like a walk in the park for someone else. All my complaints feel like they are making things worse. Where is this life roller coaster taking us ?

I think this is one of the greatest books I have ever read. It is about a family of three, a father( Atticus ), a son ( Jem ) and a daughter (Scout). The father is a lawyer and things for the family start to become difficult when the father is appointed to defend a black man, the black man is said to have raped a white girl from a very poor family. The children have to go through ridicule at school while the trial is taking place and the father of the girl who was raped says he will get Atticus even if it kills him.

"When they finally saw, why he had'nt any those things.....Atticus, he was real nice...."
This book has changed my perspective on life back in the day, on how black skinned people were treated it also shows me the strength of these two siblings Scout and Jem. This book had an interesting turn of events and a lot of difficult to understand areas but towards the end you finally understand everything and it all comes together, It's a very sad book, but an amazing read!!!

The Week That Was
My highlight of last week was the announcement of Sir Alex
Ferguson’s retirement and his last ever game managing Manchester United at Old
Trafford. It was Wednesday the 8’th,
around 10AM when I heard the Sir Alex, who had been serving Manchester United
with his managerial genius for over 26
Years, had announced his retirement that would take place at the end of the
season. I was shocked, he was the only Manchester United manager I had ever
known. The thought of someone else taking charge of the club just felt strange,
it just wouldn’t feel right. It couldn’t have been more than a day and a half
later when I heard that David Moyes, the manager of Everton at the time, had
been appointed as Sir Alex’s replacement and would take over from him on the 1st
of July. Despite the commendable job he did at Everton, I could understand why
they appointed him. He was Scottish just like Sir Alex and offered stability
(having served at Everton for eleven seasons). I do feel he was the only
logical replacement, even though it’s almost impossible to replace twenty six
years of service and thirty eight trophies. I do wish him well at the club and
hope he has a successful period at Manchester United.
Dear Mr Davis
My name is Alvin, I am from Nigeria and I am from a christian family. I am in grade nine currently. when I first came to this school it was in grade 3 and I was a very shy person but I was welcomed and made a few friends and and I grew to become the the person I am now. I have a big family with two brothers named Carlton and George which are in this school as well.
As our new principal I trust you will be a fun and entertaining person, not strict and responsible. I would appreciate it if you would reduce the work load and design programs with more efficient timing, maybe more outings here and there and maintain the school and make it a better place.
Thank you for being our new principal, I am looking forward to meeting you.
Kind regards
Alvin Oyakhilome
Dear Mr Davies
I am Emma Oelschig. I have been at Dainfern College for 10 years except for 2 years that I was in Cape Town. I went to a school in Wellington and after 1 year, moved to a school in Malmesbury. We came back to Johannesburg when I was 9. I have played violin since the age of 3 and piano since the age of 7. Dainfern College is an amazing school and I cannot imagine being at another school.
Mr. West was an extraordinary principal. The bar has been set very high. Interesting and informing assemblies, a Christian ethos, respect for students, knowledge about the youth and a great relationship with staff and students is expected. The school's music department is growing and does not have sufficient resources for the number of students doing music.
Dainfern College is very excited about you coming to our school and we will welcome you with open arms. You will enjoy managing the college and we look forward to meeting you!
Kind Regards
Emma Oelschig
The Week That Was (May 7 to 12):
The week
that was, was a blast as I had the opportunity to go to such an amazing family
party that occurred on Saturday the 11th. The party was at Parkview
Barnyard theatre, Pretoria. This was a place where families would spend time
together on a special day as every table in that theatre had a big family with
their birthday child. In that theatre, we had to watch a 2hr musical show that
was specialized for kids but I and my family pretty much tried to enjoy that
show and ended up liking it. The party was not that bad as we had delicious
pizzas and many cool drinks as a well as a beautiful and delicious cake baked
in a form of a guitar. the party was only two hour but I will have to admit
that this was the best time I had with my family in south Africa so far.It was
such an amazing day that even if I was forced to go thinking that that day was
just going to last long and be the worst I realised that I was wrong and from
that day I simply learned a lesson,, that family will always be and always will
be first in anything special that occurs.

Dear Mr Daves
I'm Rita Maria Travado de Faria recently i live in South Africa but I'm from Portugal, a small country in Europa. My first language is Portuguese. I go to Dainfern College and i frequent the grade 9 on that school. I'm 16 and i was suppose to be in grade 10, but i had to do grade 7 two times. I always went to privet and uniform schools. This school is really diffrent of the Portuguese so I'm trying to do my best on the school. I live in Dainfern golf states and my house is like 10 minutes away from school. I have one young sister and one young brother, my sister is 12 and she in in grade 7 on Dainfern college, my brother is 5 mouth.
As a student, I would like a principal that can captivate our attention, a principal who can keep the school organized an in order.
I would like to wish you all the best, and big success as the future principal.
Kind regards Rita Faria

Dear Mr. Davies
Dear Mr. Davies
I am Robin van den Berg and I am a male learner in Dainfern College in grade 9Z. I have only been in Dainfern College a year and a few months now as opposed to the majority of the pupils here who have been attending Dainfern here from the begging of their school careers. I moved to Dainfern in early January 2012 from Cape Town where I had lived for most of my life. I live in Dainfern Ridge and I enjoy playing and watching rugby and soccer. Since I began attending Dainfern College my favorite subjects have been History and English.
My main 'goals' for you in your time here in Dainfern College would be to increase the number of learners in the College. I also wish for you to maintain the school's strong engagement with technology, specifically tablets and computers. I also hope that you can extend the length of the soccer season at this school,
Like I have mentioned before I have only been in Dainfern College just over a year and I hope that you can only improve on the already commendable impressions that i have received from Dainfern College. I do wish you luck at Dainfern College and hope your time with us is enjoyable
Kind Regards
Robin van den Berg

I like the technology being used in the school and I hope that the school will continue to grow and stay in touch with technology. I would like our school to use more ebooks as they are a more fun way of learning. Our sports facilities are also improving and I hope they will continue and bring more sporting chances .I expect the school to grow in the coming years and for us to get more students and extramural activities such as music technology and production.
I look forward to seeing you around the schooI and I wish you good luck in your new venture at our school and hope you will have a great time at Dainfern College.

i am Thando Dlamini, a student at Dainfern college in 9z. i am a new student here at Dainfern college, i was at a boarding school called Kearsney college in Hilcrest, i went to Bryanston primary school i started there in grade 1 till grade 7 and your wife was my maths teacher in grade 3.
what i would like from a principal is to be fair, a principal who will make this school a better, stronger and respectful school. a school where seniors respect juniors and juniors respect seniors, because right now that is not happening in Dainfern, we may be juniors but we would like to be respected. i would also like the tuck shop to take cash as well, because some of the pupils in our school don't like paying with the school cards, i personally think its stupid.
kind regards

Dear Mr Davies
I am Mpendulo Ndlovu I am a student at Dainfern college and am in grade 9. I live in Fourways and have been at Dainfern college for two years I was at Bryanston Primary were your wife taught me. I was at Bryanston for 8 years and came to Dainfern College at the start of grade eight. At Bryanston we didn't have to do sport but the kids who did excelled in it and the ones who didn't do sport were good in they fields respectively.
My experience at Dainfern College so far has been okay but I could expect far more from the school firstly the sporting choices are compulsory and I personally think that some people don't feel comfortable doing the sport. I think we should all have the right to choose if we want to do a sport and should not punished if we don't want to do it. One more thing that irritates me is that the school wants all of it's children to do both well on the sports field and in the classroom so what I propose is that sport should not be compulsory and let the children concentrate on what they want to do without the pressure of sport and academics breathing down their throat but either than that good luck in your time as our principal and hope you enjoy.
Kind regards

Dear Mr Davies - Julia Brown
Dear Mr Davies
My name is Julia Brown, but I
prefer to be called Juls. I think it’s because my parents only call me Julia
when I am in trouble, so I accompany being called Julia with being in trouble.
Anyway, I am in grade 9 at Dainfern College and I have been here since grade 1.
I have a younger brother who also attends Dainfern College, and he is in grade
7. He wants to move schools in grade 8 to St. Johns because he is a huge
sportsman and believes that St Johns can benefit him better than Dainfern can.
But I believe differently.
Dainfern has been the perfect
school for me since Grade 4. In the prep school, I had a hard time with
bullying and I always felt out of place. Maybe it was because my teachers did
little to help me out of those hard situations. I had no friends, and was more
than a little challenged when it came to Math. I needed help but the teachers
would not give it to me. I would cry every day before school, dreading having
to go to the jail that was my classroom. After grade 3, I was desperate to
move, but decided to give grade 4 a go. Luckily I did, because I met my future
best friend, Nina Kisbey-Green. We had never been in the same class until then,
but I remember watching her at break in the prep school, smiling and laughing
without a worry in the world.
Since then we were inseparable and
it made all the difference in my life. I started to thrive in school, and was
not often seen without a smile on my face. I flew through the Senior Prep
without trouble, having Nina at my side. I opened myself up to new people and
new things, seeing as Dainfern College offers me a variety of exciting activities
that are always improving me as a person. In my opinion, the only thing that
needs attention is bullying, especially in the lower grades. I would recommend Dainfern
to anybody in a heartbeat, and I know that most other students here will. I hope that you will enforce the schools blueprints more because they are a lovely aspect of our school. If its not too much to ask, if you could keep our assemblies fun like Mr West did it would be awesome, because it made one of our most boring periods one of the best! I
trust that as our new principal, you will further better Dainfern College to
make it an even more enjoyable place for everyone who has come to know it.
Kind regards
Dear Mr Davies
Dear Mr Davies,
As you are the new principal I am sure
that you realize what is expected of you in general however we were given the
task of identifying and explaining our own expectations of you. I expect from
you what I expect from every other principal I have met – orderliness, a strong sense of
fairness and responsibility and that slight aura of menace that seems to follow
all those in power however hard they try to dispel it. I hope I will like you (although
my hopes are not too high) and I am willing to give you the benefit of doubt and
perhaps make an exception to my rule of disliking all principals.
In conclusion, I wish you all the best
and hope that you will enjoy working here. As with many schools there are ups
and downs, welcoming people and liars. The trick is seeing the good and trying
to improve the bad. To start you off with one good thought, I hear the
staffroom food is pretty good.
Kindest regards
Amber Anglin
